REFLECTION FOR DAY EIGHT

This is the last day for our EIR lessons. I think I have learnt a lot of things through this CDS. It is useful for our future study. While doing these researches I not only learn how to use different search engine but also learnt to evaluate the website. These made my research become more reliable.

Besides that I think I have enjoyed all eight days while in school. My classmates especially Taqinah she is so cute and funny. She made our class bond together and also have fun. She is very helpful as well , she helped us open the door when we need to come in . I like her!!!!!!!!
Our lecturer and tutor Ms Faridah is such a kind teacher I have ever met. She is so helpful and approachable whenever we have doubts . Her pleasant appearance make us comfortable and calm . Ms Faridah : I like you!!!!
Now let me introduce our PIG member it is the short form of PRINCESS INTEREST GROUP .Our group members are : president – princess taqinah, vice –president :Larry , Zach , Kean ,and me! We had our own self orientation on the second day of School Discovery Programme since we think that IIT School should include orientation as well. We played a few games and we really enjoyed ourselves.

I think the most important lesson that I learnt from EIR is that we need to evaluate the website while doing our research since there are still many problems exists in internet for examples like too much information , lack of standards and useless information. Hence I think it is quite important to evaluate the website before we take the resources.

Today is the last day of EIR . Although the CDS is going to end soon however our study and friendships will never end.

REFLECTION FOR DAY SEVEN

Here comes the second last day of School Discovery Programme.YEH! Here is what I have learnt today. In the morning was the test OH MY GOD! I just pass only so scary. I don’t like tests it made me feel headache the choices are so confused!!

After test we continue doing our final portfolio. I kept on disturbing taqinah since she is so funny. HAHA… I had finished mine already. But I think still need to add more things since my explanations are not so clear.

Then we moved on to Wiki. We did research and then post. I felt it is quite useful for us to share our knowledge and experience on wiki. Since everyone get involved. Our topic is Ethics using Social Networking Services. At first I don’t even understand the meaning of it . Later on someone posted the definitions of ethics and social networking services .hence I got a better understanding on this topic. Then I added on the history of social networking and services and the benefits of it. I felt very excited to share the knowledge I have learnt through research. Hence I found wiki is meaningful.

However it is not meaningful all the time since some of my classmates accidentally delete other people’s work I think it is quite wasted for people who actually put a lot of effort in it.

I think I would use wiki for some researches in my own diplomas the reason is because I found I can get more information from wiki and the topics are specific as well however the trustfulness we still need to consider since everyone can edit on it. Moreover the resources for wiki might not be reliable as well.

REFLECTION FOR DAY SIX

Today we have done the Evaluation of Internet Resource . We used the template provided to evaluate the usefulness of the website . We followed the instructions on the template . We were focused on purpose , coverage , authority, accuracy, currency, accessibility, presentation and arrangement, usability and overall quality. Through this evaluation activity I think I have gained knowledge on how to find useful resources to avoid usefulness websites . Before this activity we may not very focused on what is the website about and it’s coverage , currency and so on however this affect the accuracy of my research hence I think I need to continue doing this for my future researches.

Then we moved on to MY DREAM HOLIDAY which I have done my reflection posted on my blog already so I won’t mention so much about it.

Finally we formed group of four to evaluate the study of YOUTUBE. I found it is quite interesting to this since everyone in our class voiced out their opinions. Through this activity I actually think deeper on YOUTUBE than before such as privacy and influence. Then for the future direction of YOUTUBE it may continue developing and keep on going. I think more functions will be available as well.

I feel very tired today . We are going to have MCQ test again. SOoooooo stress…

Denmark

Denmark is the country I dreamed to go since I was young. It is a "fairy-tale"

country with lives and dreams. It is such a beautiful country which is difficult to descripe in words .

Location:Northern Europe, bordering the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, on a peninsula north of Germany (Jutland); also includes two major islands (Sjaelland and Fyn)

I have gotten the information from this website which is called lonely planet which is quite authorative in travelling .It contains online forum and travelling services hence I think it is organisational.

The Danes are, overwhelmingly, a happy bunch. In fact, if you believe those contentment surveys that come out every couple of years, Denmark is one of the happiest nations on earth with some of the best quality of life. Along winding cobbled streets Danes shop and dine at some of the most exciting places in Europe.

DENMARK is such a country full of happines and energy . With peace and comfortable living environment DARMENT is my favourate country . Of course I hope I can live and stay there foever not only for the trip.HAHA:]

The environment of the country is also very good since it use natural energy such as windmiles and water to produce energy. I like the country with clean and good habitat.

REFLECTION FOR DAY FIVE

We got test today! I was very nervous in the morning because this is my first test for EIR.Oh my god. The test is only about 20 minuts which means that we have to be fast and accurate. This is so scary! Luckily I scored 17/20 in the end. Finally the test end! Let's start playing!!!

We were discussed on things from this website www.talkingcock.com. It was supper funny however some contents are funny but have meaning behind it. I think the authour of each article has his/her own opinion on the way he/she look at things.

We supposed to come a role play on how th foreigner will react on these articles . Some may think that these articles should not be published because they affect their images. For our role play since we were too concentrate on playing and talking we did not prepare so much .So in the end we just say something randomly especially me. haha.I think next time I should be more serious in my work.

After the presentation of other groups I think Singaporean and government should take care the foreign workers in Singapore as well since they also contribute to our society .We should include them as far as possible so that they can continue staying in Singapore and contribute to our economy. For foreign worker I think they should stand on themselves. Also be more responsible to their actions Singapore because how they react things actually reflect people from their countries . It is quite important to maintain a good image for people from your country. After I have read a passage which is about some local people think the japanese emperor like giant robot although it is not a good discription but somehow it links to how people in Singapore feel about Japanese . However I don't think this passage represent all Singaporeans .

REFLECTION FOR DAY FOUR

At the begining of the lesson we shared about our experience on participating in the online forums. Although some people said they found people comment rubbish on their topic so they feel useless for using online forums however I think it is a good experience especially when people replied sincerely. I have learnt something through communication using online forums . I think we should give sincere opinions for the topic we will comment in the future. We have to be reponsible for other people . Just imagine if you are person who want to share something with people then the rest do not really care about what you talking about how do you feel? Hence we should be more considerate . For me people did reply on my topic which made me feel very happy and excited. They actually confirmed that the sentence I said were correct and scientific. For me , my research topic is impact on fast food of public health so I comment on one theme about French Fries contains harmful contents. Then my commence was even the French fries does not contain any harmful contents we still should not eat more because it can make you gain more and more weight . After that one person from USA actually agreed on my opinion and I felt very happy about it .

Then we started to do our reports . It is a bit difficult to start the report at first , after referring to our seniors' report I finally get started! I found it is quite useful for us to do report since we can actually recall on what we have learnt for all the lectures and tutorials.

We did online discussion forum within our class . It was super fun and I think each one of us enjoyed it . The reason is because the responses were so fast ! and sometimes super funny. Although we did not really talk about the topic we were supposed to talk about however I still learnt something from it . I think for online forum if more people participated then it will be more meaningful and resourceful so try to spend time on online forum next time if we have any doubts or questions.

Helo !!attention please !!!
Here are my reflection for today.
I think the meta research is more effective than invisible web.I think the reasons are because the results shown are closer than subject directory and it is also more relevant to my research topic .It contains resources from other research engines as well. For subject directory it only contains 170 results which is not so sufficient .Also some resources are irrelevant.

However the invisible web is also quite useful in term of knowledge it is more relible than the results shown on using search engines. It is because the results shown on research engines are more open to public and sometiomes even opinions from personal blogs. For invisible web we have to sign in for example the TP library database hence it is more reliable .

I think I will use the invisible web for my own research in my own diploma . I think it is quite useful because the research results are clear and arranged. We can arrange the resources according to Date , source , Author, relevance more over the research is more specific and scientific .

Besides that we have also learnt on Include site feeds nto personal blogs.By using site feeds we can view other people's reflections and passages without the templates. This makes their blogs looks more effective when we want to concentrate on the contents. So I found it is quite useful.
I think it is good to make links with my friends ' blog so I can read more and understand my friend better. Do you agree with me??

I had chosen Complete Planet , at first I typed all the keywords that link to my research topic but there is no results showned then I changed to only two keywords for my research topic.then 40 results were found and they are quite relevant to my topic .It also shows the date of the source.However when I open the link it does not show the relevant topic directly but only the website hence I found it is not so efficient for research compare to other research engines like Meta Search Engines.

Searching TP'S Databases:ITPRO
I could not find any information on my research topic for ITPRO .The reason is beause the resources it found only on IT problems like The Software Optimization Cookbook when I rearch on impact of fast food .The results shown are not relevant to my research topic !Maybe we can try IT problems next time by useing ITPRO.

REFLECTION FOR DAY TWO

Helo everyone ! welcome back .this is my reflection for the second day . For today's lecture we haven been intruduced the internet search facilities.We are introduced to use google research and google scholar research tool to complete our research . This is also my first time been introduced to use this method to do my research. First we selected all the key words and keywords variations , then we are taught to type this words into the research tool bar. For example (impact or effect)and (increase )and (fast food) and (public health) , that's for my topic.
I was impressed by the results shown because it only took 0.25 seconds to find the relevant websites. The websites are from all over the world and we can also use the local informations only.

For the discussion forum I found it is a very interesting tool for us to commucate with people from all over the world . We can share of thoughts and opinions on a specific topic. Hence people get a better understand on the issue that we have discussed. For me I have been partipated in one of the discussion forum called TOPIX .I have posted a comment under the topic "Macdonal's sued over french fry ingredients. I post a comment on it because I think the contents for Macdonal meal is very unhealth and can cause disease based on my research. I felt quite excited when people response to my comment.The online forum helped me with my research because I have a better understand on what the public felt about fastfood.

The reason for citation is because it can acknowlege the source and also avoid plagiarism .It is essential for research work . I found citation can also help us to recongnize the source.

REFLECTION FOR DAY ONE
I did not do the reflection for DAY ONE yestereday that's why I have to do it today.soooo poor thing .anyway here is my reflection for DAY ONE.

After Ms farida introduce this CDS to us I have a better understanding on this subject .For Effective Internet Research , at first I thought we will be given website to copy down the informations from there like what we did in secondary school. After the first lecturer I think I was totally wrong!For Effective Internet Rearch , we have so many things to learn on it. Not only do research but also have a better understanding on different types of resources on internet.

In lecture one we have learnt that we have different internet resources that can be used depend on what we are researching on.We even have a chance to create a new blog for this CDS which I think is really fun and exciting.

Wiki is also introduced to us .I am not so familiar with it unlike blogs. Wiki is a kind of website that allows everyone visiting the site to add , remove or edit all content ,very quickly and easily , sometimes without the need for registration. Somebody mentioned that wiki might not be so reliable since everyone can edit on it maybe some even add rubbish only . So I am thinking about maybe we should consider the reliability before we take the source .

Besides Wiki I also have a better understanding on internet forum.It is consider as a web application that provides discussion . I found it is very useful because people from all over the world can actually come online and discuss on the same issue. It is very amazing to view all the comments .I believe that people come from different countries will have different point of views .It is much better to discuss something on the internet forum so that we can share our thoughts and even the most updated issues.

Moreover electronic journals, multimedia sources, RSS , FTP archives and www sites have also been mentioned in lecture one .

Helo !I am Han Ruixue from Pasir Ris Secondary School. Now I am a DPA student in TEMSEK POLYTECHNIC. My course is Financial Business Informatics (FBI) .People always laugh when I mention this short form.Anyway we are not going to learn about how to become a secret police of USA . However we are going to learn staffs like financing and banking. The reason for choosing this course is because I heard from my senior that this course is very chanllenging and stressful.So I think it will make me happier by learning difficult things.Although I do not that how I can get in through DPA . Anyway I am in already and taking this course called Effective Internet Research. I hope this learning journey will be meaningful and fun! I have also been taken the other two CDS which are japanese language and culture and Psychology Of Creativity.I enjoyed studying them because I like to learn new things .
My hobby is to give nick names to people especially those link with animals !because I think that's the best way for me to remember a person or friend. I also like to play badminton with friends on weekends. We can play non-stop once we start!
My CCA was choir in my secondary school . I don't like to sing but my buddy asked me to join CHOIR .But I like my CCA members . They are so nice and cute!
